Phytoneuron 2013 Summary
The online
journal Phytoneuron (www.phytoneuron.net/;
ISSN 2153 733X) was begun in January 2010.
It publishes studies of taxonomy, floristics, and geographic
distribution of plants from North America (including Mexico), Central America,
and the West Indies. Publication is at
no cost to contributors and all papers are completely open-access.
All
Phytoneuron publications are available through the journal website. All
also are archived and
available through the Botanicus Digital Library (www.botanicus.org/), the whole
set mirrored in the Biodiversity Heritage Library
(www.biodiversitylibrary.org/). Articles
are characteristically indexed and locatable through a Google search within a
single day of being posted.
Through
the end of 2013, at the end of its forth year, a total of 334 manuscripts (4110
pages from a total of 160 authors) have been published in Phytoneuron. 57
papers were published in 2010, 65 in
2011, and 114 in 2012, and 99 in 2013. In 2013, 1470 pages from 110 authors were
published. Many new geographical records
have been documented and revisions presented for various genera and
families. In total for the 4 years,
Phytoneuron has published 6 new genera, 109 new species, 126 new suprageneric
taxa, and nearly 350 new nomenclatural combinations. Many typifications have been validated.
For 2013,
a total of 17,364 visits
(from 105 countries) to the journal website were recorded. Articles were read and/or downloaded a total
of 30,178 times. Slightly fewer articles
were published in 2013 than in 2012 but the total number of visits increased by
64% and the number of articles read and/or downloaded increased by 70%.
